Textile Art: Mister Finch’s Fantastical Toadstool Sculptures Crafted From Vintage Textiles

Textile Art Mister Finch's Fantastical Toadstool Sculptures Crafted From Vintage Textiles

UK-based self-taught textile artist Mister Finch has crafted these fantastical toadstool sculptures using old vintage textiles.

In addition to these pretty mushrooms, Finch is also fascinated by flowers, insects and birds which he brings to life using vintage fabrics.

For most of his pieces, Finch uses recycled materials, not simply as an ethical statement, but because he believes that they add more charm and authenticity to its work.

‘Velvet curtains from an old hotel, a threadbare wedding dress and a vintage apron become birds and beasts, looking for new owners and adventures to have.’

Mister Finch’s toadstool sculptures will be on display at Steven Kasher Gallery in New York City through 12 December – 23 December, both in real form and as photographs taken against a midnight velvet background by New York-based photographer Patricia Heal.
