Inspired by the classic horror literature of H.P. Lovecraft, Algernon Blackwood and similar authors, Portland-based CGI artist Jim Kazanjian creates surreal images that depict unnatural buildings and landscapes.
To create his fantastical worlds, Kazanjian doesn’t use a camera at any stage in the process. His fictional images are digitally manipulated composites built from photographs that he finds on the internet.
From these photographs, Kazanjian cuts various parts that he finds interesting and using Photoshop he blends them together into pieces that he calls “hyper-collages”.
Some of his bizarre scenes are the result of combining more than 50 separate photos into a single picture.
Jim has exhibited his artworks across the United States, Europe and Australia since 2008.
